How to install Tornova Backup on Windows
Download the EXE (one PC) or the MSI (managed deployment) from the Download page, run it, sign in and choose what to protect, then run your first backup.
What you need
Tornova Backup for Windows runs on Windows 10 (version 1809 or later, 64-bit) and Windows 11. You also need a Tornova account and an internet connection. After you sign in, Tornova runs quietly in the background, protects only the files and folders you choose, and shows what is protected on the website. You can add or remove items at any time.
- A 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC.
- Permission to install software on that PC.
- Your Tornova account sign-in (and your authenticator code if you turned on multi-factor authentication).
Choose a package
The Download page offers more than one Windows package. Pick the one that fits how you install software. All three install the same Tornova Agent; only the way they are delivered differs.
- EXE installer - the normal choice for one PC.
- MSI package - for IT teams that deploy with Microsoft Intune, Group Policy or similar tools. It installs the same Tornova Agent as the EXE.
- ZIP (alternative download) - TornovaBackup-Windows.zip holds the same installer (TornovaBackup-Setup.exe) and a short README, for networks that block direct .exe downloads. Extract it, then run the installer.
Install
- Download the package from the Download page. Download Tornova only from this site.
- Optionally compare the file's SHA-256 checksum with the one shown beside the download.
- Run the installer and follow its steps.
- Sign in to Tornova on the PC.
- Choose the files and folders to protect, then run your first backup.
The Backup page of the Windows app: choose files and folders, then Back Up Now. Only new and changed files are uploaded each time (sanitized screenshot).
When a backup finishes, the summary shows what was protected: Initial Backup for files backed up for the first time, Updated Files for changed files, and Already Protected for files that were already up to date.
Backups, schedules and restores are described in Getting started with Tornova. If you manage many PCs, ask your administrator to deploy the MSI instead; the result is the same Agent.
Download safely
Download Tornova Backup only from this site. Each download shows its SHA-256 checksum so you can confirm it is the file Tornova published. If Windows shows a warning you did not expect, or you are unsure whether a download is genuine, stop and ask Tornova support before you run it. Never turn off Windows protections to run a download.

If something goes wrong
If the installer does not start or Windows blocks it, stop and check where you downloaded it from and whether its checksum matches. Do not change Windows security settings to force it to run.
- The installer cannot continue: check that you have permission to install software on this PC, then try again.
- You cannot sign in: check your username and authenticator code, then see the FAQ.
- Backups do not start: confirm the PC is online and your account may back up, then contact Support.
Frequently asked questions
Which Windows versions does Tornova support?
Windows 10 (version 1809 or later, 64-bit) and Windows 11.
Should I use the EXE or the MSI?
Use the EXE for one PC. Use the MSI when your IT team deploys software centrally; it installs the same Agent.
What is the ZIP download for?
Some networks block direct .exe downloads. The ZIP holds the same installer and a README: extract it and run TornovaBackup-Setup.exe.
What if the installer says the folder is not empty?
For an upgrade or a repair of an existing Tornova installation, Setup recognises its own files and continues. If the folder holds anything else, Setup names the item and stops without deleting anything: choose another folder or contact Tornova support.
Does installing Tornova back up or change my files?
No. Nothing is backed up until you sign in, choose what to protect and run a backup or a schedule you set.
