How to install Tornova Backup on macOS (Beta)
Download the ZIP for your Mac's chip, move Tornova Backup to Applications, enroll from Terminal and approve the folder on the website. macOS support is in Beta.
Requirements
The macOS Agent is a Beta for macOS 15 or later, on Apple silicon (ARM64) or Intel (x64) Macs. It runs for your own user account and is set up from Terminal. It has not completed native macOS acceptance testing, so treat it as a Beta. The agent runs for your own user, not as an administrator, and keeps your sign-in secret in your login Keychain.
- macOS 15 or later.
- The ZIP that matches your Mac's chip: TornovaBackup-macOS-arm64.zip for Apple silicon, TornovaBackup-macOS-x64.zip for Intel (Apple menu > About This Mac shows your chip).
- A Tornova account (Standard Secure; accounts with client-side encryption are not supported).
Install
- Download the ZIP for your Mac from the Download page and compare its SHA-256 checksum.
- Double-click the ZIP to extract it, then drag Tornova Backup to your Applications folder.
- Installation never enrolls your Mac and never starts a background service.
If macOS shows a security prompt The Beta app has not been through Apple's notarization, so macOS may ask you to confirm it the first time you open it. Check that you downloaded it from this site and that its checksum matches. Do not turn off macOS security features; if macOS keeps blocking the app, contact Tornova support.
Enroll and start
- From Terminal, run the installed agent: enroll --api API-ADDRESS --username YOUR-USERNAME --folder /absolute/folder. You are prompted for your password and authenticator code, and for the account only if you belong to several.
- Approve the folder in your Tornova account on the website.
- Grant only the macOS privacy permissions you intend; the permissions command checks a folder.
- Activate the per-user background service with service-install; service-remove stops it and keeps your data.
Your password is stored in your login Keychain. Approve only the folders you want protected; the agent reads nothing outside the folder you approved.
Back up and restore
- Run a backup with the backup command and check it with status.
- Schedules and restores are managed on the website.
- Restore is same-OS only: a Mac backup restores to a Mac.
- macOS is in Beta: setup is from Terminal, and Keep Both is the only conflict choice for web restores.
If something goes wrong
Check the basics first, and never share your password or authenticator code when you ask for help.
- The app will not open: macOS may ask you to confirm software that is not notarized. Check the download came from this site, do not weaken your Mac's settings, and contact Support if it stays blocked.
- A folder is not backed up: approve it on the website and check its macOS privacy permission with the permissions command.
- The background service is not running: run status, and use service-install if you have not activated it yet.

Yes, as a Beta: there is one ZIP for Apple silicon (ARM64) and one for Intel (x64), for macOS 15 or later.
Why does macOS ask me to confirm the app?
The Beta app has not been through Apple's notarization, so macOS may ask you to confirm it. Check that your download came from this site and that its checksum matches. Do not turn off macOS security features; contact Tornova support if the app stays blocked.
Can I restore a Windows backup to my Mac?
No. Restore stays within the same operating system: macOS to macOS.
Does installing start a backup or enroll my Mac?
No. Installation only copies the application. You enroll, approve a folder and activate the service yourself.
